Parliament will co-operate fully with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in the ongoing investigations into the alleged Double salary scandal involving some former officials of the Mahama administration, a statement from Parliament signed by Acting Director of Public Affairs, Kate Addo, has said.
According to the statement from the legislature, the House will “in the interest of transparency and accountability” assist in bringing the matter to its logical conclusion.
It thus urged the general public to be circumspect in their comments on the matter as the full facts of the matter had not been determined yet.
The Police CID in its investigations initially invited 25 minority members who also served in the Executive in the erstwhile Mahama regime but later revoked 18 of the invitations citing some mistakes early on.
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has rejected reports of any wrongdoing in the double salary scandal insisting none of its members took double salary while serving in government positions.
Minority spokesperson on finance and a former deputy Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson mounted a strong defence for his colleagues at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, 10 April 2018.
“Government must really be in an indecent hurry to divert attention from its failings by this pathetic attempt to cow us into submission. No wonder Government ended up with eggs on its face yesterday,” Forson added.
