Kwame Sefa Kayi Nana Boroo Kofi Kum Bilson

Hiplife act, Nana Boroo real name Nana Osei Bonsu has revealed that his love for doing music almost ended when Chairman General Kwame Sefa Kayi and Peace FM’s mid-morning show host, Kofi Kum Bilson told him the shock of his life about his hit song ‘Aha Yɛ Dɛ’.

The Tema based artiste said he gave a copy of his song to the two broadcasters to listen to it and promote it on their shows but was shocked at the reply they gave him, saying that the track is a stupid song.

Narrating how he felt after that incidence, Boroo said he had never been such humiliated in his entire life as that comment almost made him quit music entirely.

But he noted that, taking the advise of Kill Beat, who encouraged him to disregard the statements from the two experienced radio presenters and focusing on promoting the song through the DJs, the song became the Most Popular Song at the 2011 Ghana Music Awards.

Nana Boroo told Gattuso on Kasapa FM’s ‘Aben Wo Ha’ show that the initial genre for the ‘Aha Yɛ Dɛ’ song was hiphop but upon a second opinion he told Kill Beat to change the genre from hiphop to hiplife to make it a danceable tune for music lovers.

“Before ‘Aha Yɛ Dɛ’ song became hit, many respected media personalities like Kwame Sefa Kayi and Kofi Kum Bilson of Peace FM told me in my face that the song is a STUPID song. My sister invited them over to her house to help promote the song on my behalf and to my surprise they asked me, what kind of song is that? They told me to put the song somewhere because it wouldn’t be a hit if I promote it. After that humiliating comments, I called Kill Beat, who urged me on to go ahead and promote it. Kill Beat told me to forget about them because for the fact that they play music on radio doesn’t mean they know music. My sister was also dispirited by their comments but I was able to prove to her that the song will be a hit and thankfully ‘Aha Yɛ Dɛ’ became the hottest song in 2011.” Nana Boroo told Gattuso on Kasapa FM.
