Ghanaian Film maker based in Kumasi, Frank Fiifi Gharbin has poured out his frustration on why his movie ‘Black Monkey’ was disqualified from the list of nominations submitted for 2018 Golden Movie Awards.

The movie director on Zylofon FM revealed that the Golden Movie Awards jury ruled out his movie because of the title but refused to do due diligence by getting enough details on why the movie was titled ‘Black Money’.

“It is nonsensical for the jury to disqualify my movie because of the title.”

He quizzed the sense in movie jurors accepting a movie titled, ‘Black Panther’ but choose to reject another movie called ‘Black Monkey’.

Gharbin singled out Grace Omaboe also known as Maame Dokono, one of the jurors for allegedly claiming the Black Monkey movie denigrate Africans.

He also alleged that Maame Dokono spearheaded the disqualification of his movie because she once claimed she has been sidelined by section of film makers in Kumasi.

“How can you choose Maame Dokono to lead your jury? She is technically blind and needs spectacles. She never likes anything Kumawood.”

“Panther is an animal and Monkey is also an animal, so why would they reject my movie?” he queried.

He stated, that contrary to what the jury felt about the title, his movie is all about black emancipation.

Reacting to the rejection of the movie, the Public Relations Officer for the Golden Movie Awards, Ken Addy, stated that, movie was rejected by the jury because it felt the title affects the sensibilities of the black people.

“The jury felt that as black people, we should not denigrate ourselves,” he explained.

The organizers of the Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA) have announced the full list of films that have qualified for the final stage of the process.
