The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has suspended three soldiers serving with the anti-galamsey Taskfoce ‘Operation Vanguard’.
The soldiers are said to have connived with certain individuals to extort monies from illegal miners.
A statement from GAF said the accused persons have been placed under close arrest while investigations continue into their conduct.
The Akufo Addo administration in August 2017 launched the Operation Vanguard Taskforce, a team of 400 security men made up of personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Police Service who were divided into three groups to cover the Ashanti, Eastern and Western regions.
They’ve been tasked to stay at their assigned regions until all forms of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, have been stopped and unauthorised mining pits permanently destroyed.
