The President of Anti- Child Trafficking Centre Challenging Heights’ James Kofi Annan, has described as a joke government’s fight against child labour in the country .

Government, he explains only engages in funfairs interspersed with lofty speeches which over the years has not in anyway contributed in stopping the abuse of children in the country.

He indicates that over 1.9million children in the country have been caught in the web of child abuse and trafficking who need to be redeemed from the shackles which have crippled their livelihood including their right to education .

Speaking in an interview with Kasapa News’ Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour on todays celebration of World Day Against Child labour, Mr. James Kofi Annan indicated that government since its roll out of action plan to fight child labour in 2010 has not been able to rescue a single child from child labour and associated slavery; a situation he said doesn’t show government seriousness in ending the menace with many children being subjected to life crippling situations.

Government, he added must move the Child labour unit from the ministry of employment to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection for it to receive the needed attention as the former has not proven effective in dealing with issues concerning children caught in forced labour in Ghana.

Government he added must also come out with a realistic blue print in rescuing the over 1.9m children caught in child labour in the country.
