Leader of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Akuffo Addo, has called on the party to win next year’s General Elections as a fitting tribute for the late Adams Mahama.
Mahama was until his demise, the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman. He was showered with acid by two persons, one believed to be a brother of national chairman Paul Afoko. He has since been charged with murder. The other is on the run.
At a press conference in Accra Friday, Akuffo Addo said Mahama was working towards a win for the party in 2016, and the only way he should be honoured is for the party to make that dream happen.
“Chairman Adams was a passionate party man, he wanted and fought to make possible an #NPP victory in 2016. Let us win it in his memory.”
Attended by Party big shots, the press conference came days after calls were made for him to formally speak on the matter. Nana Akuffo Addo delivered a speech many have described as forward-looking, and which should shape an eventual truce.
The NPP is struggling to manage a messy leadership crisis that has seen key regional blocs of the Party petition the national office to have the Chairman and General Secretary impeached.
