Pollster and Editor-In-Chief of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, says he will find it very hard to believe if the voter turnout in Tuesday’s District Assembly Elections reaches 40 percent.
“I am expecting a voter turnout between 30-35 percent. If the turnout reaches 40 percent, I will be surprised,” he noted in an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Wednesday.
The Electoral Commission (EC) is yet to release official figures in Tuesday’s polls.
There have been suggestions that voter turnout in Tuesday’s District Assembly elections was low with a cross section of the public blaming the EC and the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) for not doing much to publicize the event.
Some have also argued that the postponement of the event as a result of the Supreme Court ruling also had a negative impact on the voter turnout.
Many believe, if the polls had gone ahead as planned in March, 2015, the voter turnout would have been encouraging.
However, Mr. Ephson thinks otherwise.
“I don’t believe the postponement affected the turnout. It rather whip up enthusiasm in the whole exercise because you had some people showing interest to contest either as an Assembly man or a Unit Committee member.”
