Charles Antwi, the failed assassin of President John Mahama has finally walked out from the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) cells.

He has been taken to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for a thorough examination to establish his mental state.

The convict, who was accompanied by BNI officials, was taken to the Out Patient Department where he is undergoing basic checks.

The mentally unstable gunman was on Monday released by an Accra Human Rights court after he was initially slapped with a 10-year jail term by a magistrate court. However his release was delayed as the necessary documentation to seal his exit had not been completed.

The judge in a certiorari order ruled the 36-year-old man should be taken to the Psychiatric Hospital for treatment.

Charles Antwi, 36, was arrested when he visited President Mahama’s church – Ringway Gospel Center – with a loaded and cocked pistol, purportedly to kill President Mahama.
