President John Mahama’s only competitor in the ruling National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) upcoming presidential primaries, George Boateng Arthur, says should the party block him from participating in the November 7 polls, he would go to court to seek for redress.

According to him, there are clear attempts by some executives of the NDC, especially, the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, to prevent him from contesting President Mahama.

Such move, he argued, if succeeded would see him in court to seek for interlocutory injunction on the party’s polls.

“I am daring Asiedu Nketiah to go ahead with his plans. If they try to disqualify me, I will suit him or place injunction on the elections,” a provoked George Boateng said in an interview on TV3’s The Big One program on Thursday evening.

The Youth Organiser of the NDC, Oyarifa Ward Branch, on Monday picked his nomination forms at the party’s national headquarters at Adabraka to signify his readiness for the umbrella family’s presidential primaries scheduled for November 7, 2015.

But moments after the news broke, the party’s chief scribe, Johnson Asiedu Nketiahk rebuffed the claims noting that as far as he was concerned, the party had not sold any nomination forms to anyone.

Hopping from one radio station to another, Mr. Aketiah, aka Gen. Mosquito, said he was the only person mandated by the party’s laws to issue out the presidential nomination forms unlike the parliamentary primaries that could be bought at the party’s regional and constituency offices nationwide.

He said at the time of granting the interview, no party member had approached him for the presidential nomination forms.

Besides, he wasn’t in Accra to be able to have issued the presidential nomination forms to George Boateng.

Other party officials even doubted the authenticity of the forms that George Boateng has publicly been showcasing.

A deputy General Secretary of the party, Koku Anyidoho, speaking in an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM confirmed that the nomination forms in possession with George Boateng was authentic.

He however blamed the party officials who sold out the forms for disregarding the laws of the umbrella family and promised to deal with them.

“I can tell you that these two administrative staffs are currently being questioned. They had no right to do what they did. They are not novices at the party headquarters as they have worked there for several years and should have been abreast with the laws. The General Secretary is the only one clothed with the power to sell Presidential nomination forms, in his absence he can decide to delegate one of his deputies to do that on his behalf”.

He nonetheless stated that, George Boateng picking up the nomination forms does not mean anything as he has other hurdles to surmount.
