The Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says the Police are becoming caught up in issues that do not fall within their remit, alluding that the NPP’s internal matters shouldn’t be an interest of the police.

He advised the Police to distance itself from the NPP issues, insisting that the party structures has taken charge of any standing issue within the party, and are busy working to solve them amicably.

If there is an alleged malfeasance in the party, we have party structures to deal with such issues. We have a steering committee, which the chairman, Afoko is the head, and also involves the general secretary and other executives. Also beyond this, we still have the National Executive Comittee(NEC) as well as the Elders of the party. So I’ve always advised that we should use the party’s internal mechanisms to address all issues. I therefore wonder why such issues will always be brought to the public domain, Sir John questioned.”

Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, the former chief scribe of the NPP challenged that the supposed probe into the allegations of corruption in the party by the police is a fruitless exercise.

“They should find something fruitful to do with their time and stop wading into party issues, this will amount to nothing, he adds.

However, Owusu Afriyie has rubbished claims that the controversial NPP’s Ecobank account is a secret one being operated by the party’s 1st Vice chair, Freddie Blay and the National Treasurer, Abankwa Yeboah.

He said the party’s current executives are fully aware of the existence of such account, which he claimed was properly handed over to the current executives when he and his team were leaving office.

“There is no secret account as being speculated; this is still an active account of the party, which when we were leaving office, my colleague treasurer, Esther Ofori  did a proper handing over notes on it and delivered it to the current executives.”

According to him, there are proper documentations covering the alleged secret account which he says must be at the office.

He therefore could not fathom why the national chairman, Afoko, and the party’s General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong are claiming they know nothing about the said account.
