Captain of the 1995 batch of Ghana’s U17 side, Black Starlets, Emmanuel Bentil says the recall of Kwesi Appiah as coach of the senior national team[black stars] was a wrong move by the embattled Ghana Football Association(GFA).
The skipper who was instrumental in Ghana’s victory over Brazil in that tournament said Ghana did not see any marked improvement in the quality of the team Appiah handled in his first appointment, and hence had no sterling record as his trump card for which reason he should have been accepted back by officials to coach the Black Stars again.
“We all saw the performance he exhibited when he was first appointed as coach of the national team. To me, he doesn’t deserve the chance that was given to him to manage the team again” Bentil, who is training as a coach, said in an interview with Agoo Tv.
He argued there are people who are of a better standing than Kwesi Appiah, and more capable of managing the affairs of the national team and make it reach a higher level than its current status.
To him, retired French international, Marcel Desailly is a better choice to have been given the role than Kwesi Appiah.
“We have better people to be there than Kwesi Appiah. Marcel Desailly has been in top level so he should have been given the chance” he added.
The Black Stars could not qualify for the World Cup for the first time in four attempts.
But many believe the Senior National team will rebound following Coach Kwesi Appiah’s new move of introducing fresh players into the team.
