Tension is building up at Foase in the Atwima Kwanwoma District in the Ashanti Region over ongoing construction of Administration block at Twede following relocation of the district capital from Foase to Twede.

Four persons were shot dead while others sustained injuries after police officers rained life bullets on the residents on Wednesday February 7, 2017 following a clash between residents and police team over relocation of district capital from Foase to Twedie.

Residents of Foase in February locked up the assembly building to resist the relocation of District capital from Foase to Twedie.

The Residents and the leaders of Foase accused the DCE for Atwima Kwanwoma District of being behind the shooting by the police officers which led to the death of the four persons.

Government set up committee to investigate the Foase shooting incident

The angry residents have expressed their disappointment about the way the authorities were handling the foase incident.

The resident had threatened to stage massive demonstration against the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah and the NPP government following the Foase incident.

The Assembly Man Foase-Edwenase Electoral Area Christian Okyere speaking to Abusua Fm’s Osei Kwadwo described the decision by the authorities to build administration block at Twede as unfortunate,  and insisted Foase remains the district capital for Atwima Kwanwoma District not Twede.

“The committee report is not yet available. Foase is still the capital for Atwima Kwanwoma District so we don’t understand why construction of administration block is ongoing at Twede. We are urging authorities to change their decision to move the district capital from Foase to Twede to maintain peace and save souls” he said.

Okyere however revealed that leaders and the youth of Foase will continue to resist any attempt to move the district capital from Foase to Twede, and called on the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II to intervene.

Meanwhile, all the four persons shot dead are still in the mortuary after several months of the incident.
