Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has disclosed that his arduous task of having to lead in delivering the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) major programmes in the Education sector is denying him his sleep.

According to him, he’s under intense pressure having to see the role out of huge programmes such as the Free SHS programme, Double Track System, new curriculum for basic schools and Teacher trainees licentiate exams which are all running in the educational sector.

The Minister who’s also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, admitted the introduction of new policies and restructuring in the educational sector is depriving him of his sleep.

“Education is so important for this country and so important for the vision of the President that every time he meets me he’ll ask a question about education that astounds me. The other time he said what are you doing for teachers, NAPO ? [referring to the Minister], if we don’t do anything for teachers we won’t make a headway oo. The next time he said this language thing, what is it about? The other time it was curriculum, when are you going to finish?

“Four big goals we have to revive or reform the curriculum to deal with the twenty first century issues, mould the people curriculum and teacher reform curriculum. We have to take technical and vocational education seriously, we have to do free SHS and now double truck and we have to look at tertiary education and open it up for more people especially the poor and the vulnerable. Four big issues, it keeps me sleepless, I’m always awake.”
