NDC flagbearer hopeful Professor Joshua Alabi is calling on the party leadership to give effect to provisions of the party constitution that allows grassroot participation in the election of a new flagbearer.

Addressing the media about the demand Thursday, the Campaigner manager for Professor Alabi, Victor Adawudu said the party leadership must empower the grassroot to this effect.

“Involvement of the branch executives in the flagbearer election; One of the ways of addressing some of the concerns is allowing the branches to own the party and partake in the election of their leaders. Team Alabi believes that to strengthen all structures of the party and to build a very strong party for election 2020, the grassroots represented by the Branch Executive should be deeply involved in selecting the Flagbearer.”

He also called for the establishment of an independent electoral committee to supervise the party’s upcoming flagbearer elections.

According to Team Alabi, the absence of such a committee will undermine the credibility of the selection process.

Professor Alabi is being contested by 10 other stalwarts of the NDC including former President John Mahama, second deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, former Trades minister Ekwow Spio- Garbrah, former NHIA boss Sylvester Mensah for the flagbearership position scheduled for December this year.

Meanwhile, former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ken Dzirasah has said stated that Professor Alabi is the best person to lead the NDC into to the 2020 elections due to his marketable nature.
