The National Teaching Council (NTC), has described yesterday`s delay in the start of the maiden licensure exams as unfortunate, promising to ensure the situation does not recur in subsequent sittings.
Hundreds of newly trained teachers who turned up at the various examination centres for the exams on Monday, 10th September, 2018 expressed their frustration over the delays in the start of the exams.
The Public Relations Officer for the NTC, Dennis Owusu on Anopa Kasapa said the delay was as a result of some unexpected challenges the council was confronted with, hours to the start of the exams.
“We encountered some challenges yesterday which caused the delay of the exams, we are sorry for what happened but it wasn’t expected. For now, we have been able to solve it and we pray that going forward it does not recur” he said.
The examination is for all teachers who hold the Diploma in Basic Education (DBE), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) or a post-graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) who want to be employed by the Ghana Education Service.
According to the National Teaching Council, the purpose of the licensing examination is to enable qualified teachers to acquire a professional license to ply their trade.
The introduction of the licensing examination was met with some agitation by some teacher associations and newly trained teachers.
