President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Adddo has credited Late former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, with his “Ghana Beyond Aid” mantra, saying the latter founded that vision for both the nation and the African continent.
He stressed:”Kofi Annan was an ardent believer and the capacity of the Ghanaian and African to chart his/her own course onto the path of progress and prosperity.”
In a tribute read by the Ghanaian leader during the final funeral rites of the late former UN Boss and the International diplomat, President Akufo-Addo said:”He gave me sensitive, deeply appreciated advice when I became the President of the republic”
President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been trumpeting his government’s vision of building a country beyond aid for some time now.
Going beyond aid is an inevitable conversation in this regime as the government has taken major steps to confront the destiny of the country, through the implementation of policies and operational steps that will put the country on a sound footing to mobilise the required revenue for sustainable development.
Ghana’s illustrious son Kofi Annan will be buried today, September 13, 2018 after an ongoing state funeral attended by world leaders past and present, traditional authorities among others being held at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Annan led the UN from 1997 to 2006 as the first black African to occupy the secretary general position. He died on August 18 aged 80 at his home in Switzerland after a short illness.
The current head of the world body, Antonio Gutteres, is in attendance at the funeral.
The Global diplomat will be buried later today at a private burial at the capital’s military cemetery.
