A legal practitioner and Member of Parliament for Asante Akim Central constituency, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi has bemoaned the swift action taken by the Judicial Council over the corruption scandal that has hit Ghana’s judiciary.

Following Anas’ exposé, twenty-two judges and magistrates who were cited in the latest corruption scandal  have been suspended by the Council.

The process of determining whether there is a prima facie case against 12 High Court Judges has also been initiated by Her Lady Chief Justice, Theodora Georgina Wood.

The decision was taken after the Chief Justice and the Judicial Council examined the video evidence of malfeasance brought against the judges by Anas.

But, Mr Anyimadu speaking to Accra-based Okay FM faulted the Judicial Council for the hasty punitive action taken on the matter that saw the 22 Judges and magistrates suspended yesterday.

He insists that the “tape evidence is not conclusive evidence,” hence it would have been fair for the Council to exhaust the legalities involved with the process before administering the appropriate and disciplinary action.

He said although due process has been commenced under Article 146(3) of the 1992 constitution, it would have been prudent to follow all the procedural steps under this provision.
