A five-member Disciplinary Committee of the Judicial Council chaired by a Justice of the Supreme Court will today Thursday September 10, begin hearing of a petition for the impeachment of some 22 Judges and Magistrates who have been found culpable in a corruption scandal that has rocked the Judiciary.

According to a statement signed by the Judicial Secretary, Secretary, Justice Alex B. Acheampong, said the 22 were on September 7, 2015, served with letters stating the allegation against them and were asked to submit their response by September 9, 2015.

“The Judicial Council further decided that upon receipt of their responses, the 22 individuals should be suspended until the final determination of the matter,” the statement in part read.

There is uneasy calm in Ghana’s Judiciary as thirty-four judges face being sacked following an exposé by Ace investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas which established some 34 Judges neck deep in corrupt activities.

Some senior judges including, High Court Judge Charles Quist, Kofi Essel Mensah and Ajet Nassam have been captured on tape in discussion with suspects or assigns of suspects on how to compromise the cases before the Judges respective courts.

The incriminatory video shows money changing hands as one could hear the judges including, a Human Rights Court judge, Charles Quist (a High Court Judge) allegedly making demands to throw away cases which include robbery, murder and corruption among others.

“What if I release him (armed robbery suspect) on Friday and I don’t see you again?” Quist was heard on tape allegedly quizzing someone.

“Oh I will get him off. I will get him off the hook on Friday but everything will depend on you,” he stressed in the conversation.

The Judicial Council, Kasapafmonline.com learnt, has also instituted the necessary investigative processes to identify, for further disciplinary actions, other court officials who may have collaborated in these alleged acts of grave misconduct.
