The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has urged the newly elected national executives of the Ghana United Nations Students Association (GUNSA), to develop strategies that would help them lobby all the Association’s former members in order to build a strong support base for the Association.

Addressing members of the GUNSA National Executives at her country office at the Foreign Ministry, when they paid a courtesy call on her, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, urged them to take advantage of the many national leaders, captains of industry and prominent Ghanaians who have been members of GUNSA, to establish a mechanism through which these persons can support the efforts of GUNSA.

GUNSA can boast of several high profile Ghanaians who are currently serving in various positions in Ghana including the sitting Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as past members of GUNSA.

The Ghana United Nations and Youth Association (GUNSA) is a non-governmental student and youth association founded in 1963 under the United Nations Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Madam Botchwey, is also the Chief Patron of GUNSA.

In his address to the Foreign Minister, National President of GUNSA, Kwashie Klu-Duvor, indicated that the National Executive body is developing a new strategy for the Association and the suggestions by the Minister would be given priority consideration.

On challenges the Association is faced with, Mr. Klu-Duvor said they are seriously in need of an office space. Additionally, he added that the Association was on subvention support from government through the Foreign Ministry, however, for some time now, they had not enjoyed the stipend. He therefore called on the Minister, being their Chief Patron, to help restore the subvention support.

The National Executive team that called on the Minister included Kwashie Klu-Duvor, President; Eric Luterodt, 1st National Vice President;
Emmanuel J.K. Arthur, General Secretary; Monalisa Brew, Women’s Commissioner and Anane Yaw Kuwornu, Youth Wing Co-ordinator.
