Rehabilitation works on the Koforidua Cultural Centre in the Eastern Region, is almost completed for use the 2018 National Festival of Arts and Culture in November.
The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Honourable Catherine Afeku with selected media personalities paid a working visit to the Koforidua Cultural Centre last Saturday to ascertain the progress of work.
The renovation works comes after some concerned journalists paid an unannounced visit to the center to find out about the facelift as reported by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Arts, Dr Ziblim Barri Iddi.
According to him, as at August, 2018, government officials from the ministry visited the abandoned Koforidua Cultural Center and took a thorough survey of the property.
Dr. Iddi added that the renovation works at the Koforidua Cultural Center was almost completed because the auditorium at the cultural centre will be used for the National Festival of Arts and Culture in November, 2018.
But, touring the abandoned building, media personnel realized that no work has commenced as the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture made the public believed.
The Koforidua Cultural Center building was first built in 1964 by Kwame Nkrumah and during the erstwhile President John Kuffour administration between 2001/2009 renovation works were started to house offices and an auditorium with a 1,000 estimated sitting capacity when completed but abandoned ever since.
At the recent visit to the facility, Media practitioners were pleased with the steady progress of work on the Cultural Centre.
They pleaded with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry to rehabilitate all other existing cultural centres in the country. Seeing the Rehabilitation of all these existing cultural centres and also the agenda of having equally same in other regions especially with large capacity seating and modified to suit the current trend.
