At least 80 percent of pure water manufacturing companies shut down their operations due to the high cost of production, the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) has revealed.

Justifying the latest increase in the bag of sachet water from Ghc3 to GHc3.50p, the association says the increase became necessary otherwise several other pure water manufacturing companies were at the verge of going down.

Speaking to sit-in host of Anopa Kasapa, Akwasi Nsiah, spokesperson for the association, Kwame Agyapong, noted that almost everything has been increased in the country, especially fuel, making it difficult for them to keep up with production, hence the increase.

“We can’t bear the high cost of production anymore, almost everything has been increased in the country, and the things we use in producing our water has skyrocketed. I have been in this business for the past eighteen years and per my observation, about 80 percent of those I started with have all collapsed”.
“If we don’t increase as we’ve done, we will go down” he added.

The association, in consultation with all regional associations of sachet water producers announced an increment in the prices of a bag of sachet water from GHC3.00 to GHC 3.50.

The new price is expected to take effect from Monday, 12th November, 2018.
