The Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency, Alex Adomako Mensah has said that government is not in the position to settle aggrieved customers of gold dealership firm Menzgold for their locked up cash.

He argued that, the customers should have learnt from the experience of DKM Microfinance by doing due diligence before parting monies with the firm.

The deputy ranking Member of Parliament’s Finance Committee says government cannot intervene in the woes of the customers and that it was out of greed they invested with the firm, a position espoused by Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta few days ago.

He told sister station Starr Fm, “When it started, when we found out that Menzgold was coming at a certain point, we members of parliament on the finance committee, we called the governor of the bank of Ghana to warn them and he did that. Even when they were been warned people were saying that they have got money, so this one is not a government affair it individual greed that some people have got to enter into something like this”.

He added: “When they were being given monthly interest they were happy not thinking one day it will collapse. I don’t think government will have to pay this because if every time people will mess around and expect government to help them, where is government going to get the money”.

Meanwhile, some members of the Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold on Tuesday, 27 November 2018, hit the streets of Accra to protest against the management of the gold-trading firm in demand for the payment of their full principal investments locked-up with the company.

They also pleaded with the government to urgently intervene to enable them retrieve their investment.
