Ghana’s Olympic Men’s football team the Black Meteors were yesterday edged out of a place for the next Olympic Games when they lost against Congo in an away fixture.

Playing against a Congolese side they beat 1 nil a fortnight ago, Malik Jabir’s men failed to hold on and had their aggregate lead cancelled. Claude Le Roy’s men subsequently beat their Ghanaian counterparts 5:4 on penalties.

Meanwhile there was a lot to cheer about when the senior national women’s team the Black Queens beat their Egyptian counterparts by 3 goals to zero to emerge with an aggregate score of 4-1, having held them to a 1:1 game in Cairo two weeks ago.

Goals by Portia Boakye, Jane Ayieyam and Elizabeth Addo were enough to secure Ghana’s campaign for the Rio Olympic Games.

They will either face Guinea or Cameroon next.
