The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has set free three persons, including an Islamic Cleric, Sheik Sidi Bukuri, who were arrested on suspicion of being terrorist.
Kasapafmonline.com is reliably informed that the release of the trio follows the state security agency’s conclusion that they were innocent.
Inside sources say the BNI had a tip off from their counterpart security agency in neigbouring Burkina Faso for the arrest of the three persons.
However, after background checks coupled with some assistance from their Burkinabe friends, they realized that they had arrested the wrong people.
In the process, the BNI had to apologize to the trio and their families and set them free on Thursday, December 13, 2018.
Background
Sheik Bukuri and 20 others were picked up in Karega in the Northern Region by the BNI on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. The suspects were then airlifted to Accra from Tamale.
They were arrested on suspicion of training the young men in the area into terrorism, a development their family members have vehemently denied.
Their lawyers having made several attempts to get access to them but which proved futile proceeded to court and prayed for their immediate release.
