President Akufo-Addo, has made a personal contribution of GH¢100,000 towards the construction of the National Cathedral.

He made the contribution when he launched the National Cathedral Fundraising Campaign, on Friday, 28th December, 2018, at the forecourt of the State House, Accra.

In his speech, the President noted that, like Solomon, at the dedication of the first temple, he knows that God cannot not be contained in a physical edifice.

“When that intrepid man of God Arch Bishop Nicholas Duncan Williams announced the cost for a seat at this fundraising ceremony I believe many were certain that this event will fail and will have lots of empty seats. On the contrary by God’s grace we have almost a full house. You’ve strengthened my resolve that indeed we can and will build a national cathedral to the glory and honour of God.”

Again like Solomon on that occasion, the building of the National Cathedral is to serve as a gesture of thanksgiving to God for his blessings, favour, grace and mercies on our nation, and to give me an opportunity to redeem a pledge I made to Him before I became President, and I pledge a GHC100,000 as my personal contribution,” he said.

There were other positive pledges toward the project.

There were some GH¢100,000 pledges same as what President Akufo-Addo pledged.

Hollywood star Idris Elba and international model Naomi Campbell also attended the fundraising dinner.

Among the dignitaries who attended the fundraising dinner were the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife Samira, the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Ocquaye, the Chief Justice, Ms Sophia Akuffo and former President Jerry John Rawlings
