The Police in Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi are expected to arrest more persons in relation to Tuesday’s demonstration by customers of embattled gold dealership firm, Menzgold.

This follows the arrest of seven persons over the protest which the police say was illegal.

The aggrieved customers are demanding that President Akufo Addo intervenes and help them retrieve their locked up investment with the troubled company.

The customers blocked roads at Amakom and other parts of Kumasi burning car tyres to express their anger.

They are protesting due to their inability to access their locked up funds. Several efforts by the customers targeted at the company to get their monies have failed to yield any positive results.

The customers since July last year, have been demanding the payment of their principal investments after the gold dealership company was instructed by the Securities and Exchange Commission to halt their gold trading operations.

Speaking to Starr News, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command ASP Godwin Ahianyo said they cautioned customers against embarking on such illegal demonstration.

“We took some pictures we have names coming up, the people we spoke to we believe were the brain behind the unlawful demonstration and we’ll make sure they are invited to help us in investigations. So hopefully we’ll be picking more persons to assist us. We know there are people behind this illegal demonstration, we’ve told time and time again that we are not going to tolerate or entertain any acts of lawlessness so we are assuring the public that the police are out there to provide protection that we need to give them. Whoever will want to take the law into his own hands and perpetrate any act of lawlessness we’ll deal with that person.”
