It is conventional to see most awards scheme bestow a Lifetime achievement award on deserving acts for their recognize contributions throughout their career.
Several Ghanaian Entertainment enthusiasts have also cited some Awards scheme organizers for their contributions in recognizing the efforts of these greats during their lifetimes, making creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of their endeavours.
It is most unlikely to see a deserving Lifetime Achievement receiver request to be recognized for their contributions in the entertainment industry.
But award-winning gospel trio, Daughters of Glorious consider it not spot on if Charterhouse, organizers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards are unable to recognize their efforts.
The celebrated gospel music group disclosed they will not file for the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) nominations.
In an interview with Happy FM, Daughters of Glorious Jesus explained that their brand has existed for thirty years (30) so they should be accorded an honourary status and not go through the usual requirements.
“We will not file. I’m saying this on your platform. We will not file for anything. We have been there, we have been existing for 30 years and so if they [VGMA] are celebrating their 20 years and can’t honour us […], it’s up them. We never file for nomination during Arts Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana [ACRAG] Awards, they recognize our contributions to the Music Industry and honoured us.”
The gospel trio made up of Edna Sarpong, Monica Owusu Ansah and Cynthia Appiadu are currently celebrating 30 years in Ghanaian gospel music industry.
The Arts Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana (ACRAG) Awards have been in existence for over three decades now. The avowed mission of ACRAG is to maintain focus on the arts and to influence its promotion and development in the country to meet international standards.
By virtue of its function, ACRAG is a watch dog for standards in creativity in the arts in the Ghanaian experience. The last ACRAG Awards was held in 2007.
