ICONS Social Club, a club made up of professionals such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, journalists, accountants amongst others over the weekend presented a cheque for GHC2,500 to the Echoing Hills Village situated at Ogbojo at Madina in Accra.

The money is to be used to pay for the electricity bill the Village owes for some months now.

Echoing Hills is a Home which caters for people with special needs particularly children. The Village currently caters for the visually impaired, deaf, handicapped, persons with disabilities and the homeless.

The Village serves over fifty people with special needs and provides them with shelter and occupational training skills.

The Club also donated items such as, bags of rice, cooking oil, water, drinks, toilet rolls etc. to the Village.

Presenting the items, President ICON Alex Oman said the club is aimed at supporting the needy and under privileged in society.

He said most orphanage homes and social care centres are facing serious hardships since they do not have enough funds to cater for the children.

Expressing the readiness of the club to support the Village and other orphanage homes in the country, the General Secretary, ICON Gilbert Otto Osei-Alomele said the gesture is not going to be the last as the ICONS are committed to providing interventions to the Village to cater for their needs

He said the club is open to all young men who are professionals and are ready to help society.

Receiving the items, the Director of the Echoing Hills Village, Rev. Lamina Lawrence said the facility is privately owned and managed by himself and some volunteers.

Rev. Lamina explained further that the Village also receives referrals from the Domestic Violence & Victim Support Unit [DOVVSU] and the Department of Social Welfare but indicated that no support is given them when children are referred to the Village.

“We cater for them ourselves with no support from government despite the referrals”, he said.

He stated that all the children brought to the facility are taken to school  with some currently in Secondary School.
