The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ade Coker, has denied receiving GH₵100,000.00 from former President, John Dramani Mahama and the party, to assist him win the umbrella family’s upcoming Presidential primary.
He also denied that none of his colleague regional party chair has also received GH₵100,000.00 being part of an alleged GH₵2,000,000.00 disbursed by the former Ghanaian Head of State and the party to assist his presidential bidding.
The Daily Guide newspaper on Monday, February 18, 2019, reported that confusion has erupted in the opposition NDC over some monies Mr. Mahama and the party reportedly gave to their regional chairmen.
The newspaper further reported that its sources within the Akatamansonians have hinted that sometime last week Saturday, February 9, 2019, Mr. Mahama, who is hoping to lead the NDC for the third time for the 2020 presidential election, held a meeting with all 10 regional chairmen of the NDC at his office to discuss how to shore up support for his candidature in order to win the race.
The former President, according to the newspaper, is said to have budgeted an amount of GH₵2million for that project. Each of the 10 regional chairmen was given an amount of GH₵100,000.00 with GH₵30,000 for each of the 275 constituency chairman to ensure he wins the primary.
The party goes to the polls on Saturday, February 23, 2019, to elect a flagbearer who will lead the party in the 2020 general elections.
However, Mr. Coker interacting with Kwaku Owusu Agyei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Monday, said there is no iota of truth in the publication carried by the Daily Guide newspaper.
He said if he had received any amount of that sort as portrayed by the newspaper, he would by now, be cooling off in Acapulco, a beach resort town on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
“If I had received GH₵100,000.00 from John Mahama, by now I would be cooling off in Acapulco and watch the sun while thinking about myself”, he sarcastically noted.
He added “I was in bed when you called. Tell Daily Guide to show you the one who distributed the money so I can go for mine. What a fantasy. Mahama has not given any money to anybody. No regional chairman of the NDC has received GH₵100,000.00 from Mahama. I am the Spokesperson of all the regional chairmen and so I would have been the first person to hear about the said money”.
