The Commander in charge of the National Security SWAT team, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Kodwo Azugu says personnel from the National Security were on a primary mission to build confidence at the Ayawaso West Wuogon enclave and had nothing to do with the elections.
According to him, the confidence building task meant National Security operatives driving their vehicles through the streets of the AWW constituency.
DSP Azugu revealed this when he took his turn at the public hearing of the Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry in Accra on Monday.
Meanwhile, the SWAT Commander said he is yet to know why his men wore mask at the Ayawaso by-election.
“On that particular day, those you saw in mask, I’m yet to know why they put on the mask. I’m too know why I must admit,” he told the Emile Short commission probing the violence that characterized the by election.
Ealier, DSP Samuel Kodwo Azugu, had conceded that his men failed to act professionally during the by-election held on Thursday, 31 January, 2019.
