The former General-Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong has asked Ghanaian ladies who he describes as very decent not to make the mistake of marrying men who are members of a vigilante group.

According to him, ladies who marry members of vigilante groups who engage in thuggery do so at their own peril as they risk being assaulted at the least provocation.

His advice comes on the back of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu directing political parties to denounce vigilante groups claiming allegiance to them with immediate effect, as it’s against the country’s laws for political parties to have such groups that have recently been disturbing the peace of the country.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command on Monday, February 18, 2019, declared four persons alleged to be members of pro-NDC vigilante group “The Hawks” wanted over the shooting incident at the NDC regional office.

One person died while another person is also in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Speaking to host Kwaku Owusu Agyei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM, Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong who’s currently a Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology condemned the activities of vigilante groups, adding that their existence is a serious national security threat.

He said all means must be employed to discourage able-bodied young men from being recruited as vigilantes and urged Ghanaian ladies not to marry them.

“I’m telling our ladies not to marry a member of a vigilante group, who only know how to exhibit their rowdy best. Our decent Ghanaian ladies do not deserve to spend their lives with such dangerous characters. Ghanaians are strongly against the existence of vigilante groups, so why must our women show love to these guys?

“Vigilante in itself is not bad, but the kind we practice here in Ghana is a huge source of worry and a huge national security concern. These people are noted for engaging in lawless acts including assaulting people. Why will someone be proud and take glory in being a member of a vigilante group. I emphasize that our ladies should not marry a member of a vigilante group who may eventually end up brutalizing them when they get married.”
