The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George has told the Emile Short Commission probing the violence that characterized the Ayawaso West Wuogon, that he didn’t tender in spent bullets from the shooting incident to the police because of his mistrust for them.

This was after the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Emile Short, asked him, why he didn’t find it prudent to hand over to the police the shell casings which are critical evidence in the investigation of the violence on election day. And why he refused to inform the Police in his statement at the Police Headquarters that he had the spent bullets in his possession.

“My Lord, the issue of these shell casings was even mentioned on the day at the press conference that was called by my National Chairman, so the fact about shell casings from the scenes was already public knowledge.

“My Lord, yesterday I stated before this Commission how my trust in the Ghana Police Service has been shaken by standing aloof when I was being assaulted even though there were armed policemen who could have intervened, but they didn’t. I’ve exhibited my trust for this Commission by bringing such critical evidence before this commission because I believe it will help this commission,” Sam George told the Commission on Tuesday.

The MP on Monday brought before the Emile Short Commission 29 bullet casings to back his testimony before the commission.

The legislator, delivering his account of happenings on the day of the violent by-election said the casings were evidence of the several rounds of ammunition fired by the armed masked national security operatives.

According to Sam George, some residents in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency confronted him with bullet casing alleging that the masked men had shot at them several times.

“One of the men told me ‘honourable, they are shooting us. They shot us with guns, live bullets’ and he brought me a shell casing. When he brought that shell casing to me, I asked the gentlemen around to go around and pick as many shell casings as they could. And my Lord, while I waited, they brought me these shell casings,” he said.

“There are 18 9mm shell casings. There are 10 shell casings and one live round from an AK-47 that were picked on the spot on the day and brought to me,” he added.
