The Executive Director of Street Fashion Train Foundation, Mr. Benjamin Mills a.k.a Mr Wear Ghana and the Wear Ghana Committee have accused the National Commission on Culture of stealing the “Wear Ghana Month Program” from Street Fashion Train Foundation.

Mr Benjamin Mills expressed surprise at the fact that the National Commission on Culture (N.C.C), has stolen the”Wear Ghana Month Program” which Street Fashion Train collaborated with to organize the maiden edition in March 2018.

Speaking with Kasapa FM’s Kojo Preko Dankwa on the Kasapa Entertainment show, Mr Wear Ghana lamented the manner in which the NCC has ‘stolen’ the Wear Ghana Month Program and changed the name of the program to “Wear Ghana Festival” and have also outlined the same programs without inviting the Wear Ghana Committee to discuss the second edition of the Wear Ghana Month Program.

“Nobody from the NCC or the Ministry of Tourism contacted me or any member of the Organizing Committee to discuss the program for possible collaboration. I just chanced on their flyer and realized that they have stolen my concept which I have registered. The painful aspect of it is that, during the maiden edition, both the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Catherine Afeku and the Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture, Madam Edna Nyame were present at the Ghana Fashion Industry Honours/ Awards on 25th March, 2018 and they addressed the audience and commended the Street Fashion Train Foundation for the Initiative and the collaboration. So I am astonished that, the NCC has turned around to” stab” us in the back and the Minister of Tourism has so far kept mute over what its agency is doing” Mr Wear Ghana told Kojo Preko Dankwa

Mr. Michael Natsu, a committee member of the Wear Ghana Month event expressed disappointment in the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the National Commission on Culture for using foul means to claim an initiative that belongs to a private company.

“Is the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture and the NCC really seeking our welfare especially the fashion industry? IF YES, then why are they stabbing us at the back? Why are they not supporting the Wear Ghana Month Program and rather stealing the initiative? or did they come to spy on the program during the maiden edition in order to steal it? I am asking these questions for clarification because I do not understand what NCC and the Ministry of Tourism are doing” he said.

Mr. Socrate Safo, a moviemaker who also doubles as the Director for Creative Arts, Programs and Projects at the National Commission on Culture (NCC) confirmed in same interview with on KasapaFm that, the Wear Ghana Month campaign held in March is an initiative of Street Fashion Train Foundation.

He went further to explain that when the Ministry launched the broad policy thus, Eat Ghana, See Ghana, and the Wear Ghana Policy, the Commission had previously organized a 3-day fair to promote made in Ghana goods in September 2017 but it did not yield the desired impact. However, Street Fashion Train Foundation approached his office with the Wear Ghana Month Program in 2018 which he thought it was great and therefore decided to collaborate with them.

“I know that the Wear Ghana Month Program held in March is a private initiative by Street Fashion Train Foundation, so I expected another collaboration,” he said.

Mr Wear Ghana appealed to all Ghanaians especially fashion industry players because the Wear Ghana Month Program by Street Fashion Train is for Models, Fashion Designers, Barbers, make –up artistes, Hair Dressers, Cloth sellers and Manufactures to join to make it a success and have a united front to work to make an impact on the Ghanaian economy.
