Veteran highlife musician, Rex Omar has stated that the Music industry will be no more should Highlife artistes stop churning out music.

In Facebook post sighted by Kasapafmonline, the ‘Abiba’ hitmaker who in recent times started a campaign to release songs every month is optimistic that Highlife music in Ghana is the only genre sustaining the music industry.

“Our music industry will be dead if we the Hilife singers stop releasing music” Rex Omar posted on his Facebook Timeline.

Omar, one of the favourite  Ghanaian highlife artist, first rose to prominence in 1989 with the Aware Pa album. Following this, in 1992 he formed the Highlife Supergroup Nakorex together with fellow Highlife artists Nat Brew and Akosua Agyapong, the group’s name being an acronym made up of the first letters of each member’s name.

As an advocate of Highlife Music in Ghana, Rex Omar has encouraged young and talented artistes to push the Highlife agenda.

Highlife music has greatly been accepted worldwide as a genre of music originated from Ghana in the 20th century.

The genre uses the melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional Akan music, but is played with Western instruments. It is also characterised by jazzy horns and multiple guitars which lead the band.
