The NDC MP for Yunyoo constituency, Joseph Bipoba Naabu, has said that the chances of the former President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama winning the 2020 Presidential Election for the umbrella family is brighter considering the level of his endorsement by the party faithful in the February 23, 2019 presidential primary of the party.
However, he argues in an interview with some journalists of the Parliamentary Press Corps, Friday, that that could only be achieved if Mr. Mahama sacks the people he has surrounded himself with which he described as veranda boys and girls.
“The point I want to raise is we all know that we have come together. But if he [Mahama] wants to go with those his veranda boys who don’t give him good advice, I will continue to say it and say it and say it. Those veranda boys and girls who were then not giving him good advices, if he listens to them, what happens in 2016 will be worst”, he cautioned.
Mr. Mahama polled an overwhelming 213,443 votes, representing 95.24% of the total valid votes cast to become the flagbearer and leader of the umbrella family in the party’s presidential primary.
His contenders; the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Alhaji Nurudeen Iddrissu and Sylvester Mensah polled 2,313, 519 and 932 votes, representing 1.02%, 0.23% and 0.41% respectively.
Mr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah on the other hand polled 1,467 votes, representing 0.65% while Goosie Tanoh garnered 2,038 votes, representing 0.90% votes.
The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Prof. Joshua Alabi also polled 3,399 votes, representing 1.51% of the total valid votes cast.
Mr. Naabu commenting further urged all the party folks to close their ranks and come together in unison and work towards achieving their goal of winning election 2020.
“The only thing is that all of us must come onboard; I will also come onboard if he [Mahama] so wishes – and I am not saying he should call me; I am going to be onboard. If he receives me, fine; if he doesn’t, okay”, he noted.
