A national security operative Bright Nana Akomea also known as ‘Double’ has denied firing a gun during the disturbances that characterized the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

This is contrary to the account given by the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament, Sam George when he appeared before the Emile Short Commission probing the Ayawaso violence.

“Shots were immediately fired into the air. I immediately took cover against a wall and stood against it. Because, the next 60 seconds appeared to be stuff from an action movie. I saw a number of the armed men pull out their side weapons and fire into the direction of the crowd. I saw Double [a National Security operative] pull out his AK 47 and fire. The gun jammed; I saw him clear his chamber, reload the gun and fired several rounds from his AK47,” George told the Commission.

But ‘Double’ has said although he was not assigned with a gun for the said operation at Ayawaso West Wuogon, he borrowed one from the driver when they arrived at the scene, but never pulled a trigger.

At least six people were shot during the violence with several others sustaining injuries.

The Commission has been tasked to make recommendations to forestall such electoral violence in the future polls.
