One person has been shot dead in renewed clashes between Chokosis and Konkombas in Nowueku, a farming community in the Chereponi District of the North East Region.

The victim is said to have been shot at a wedding ceremony.

The Chereponi District Chief Executive Abdul Razak who confirmed the incident said security has been enhanced in the area to avert reprisal attacks.

“Around 10 to 11 pm, a community known as Nowueko who are Chokosis were having a wedding ceremony and the Konkombas from Nambong came and attacked them. But as to what caused the attack this morning, I don’t know. As I speak I have 75 military men on the ground, police as we speak are about 40 in number.”
