The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kumbungu constituency, Ras Mubarak has berated the Akufo-Addo-led government for showing poor leadership vis-à-vis its response to Ghanaians who perished in last Friday’s accidents.

He added its disappointing the shambolic response of the government to the accidents considering the severity of the road crashes which killed over 70 persons and injured many.

“The President was in Tumu over the weekend when the accident happened, at least what would it take to stop over in Techiman and visit the victims as the Commander-in-Chief and leader of the country? You could travel all the way to Tumu and if you know the map of Ghana, yu’ll know where Tumu is located at, and you couldn’t stop over.

“Again the government says it’s paying the hospital bills of the victims. what about those who have lifetime injuries? some of the victims can’t work for the rest of their lives in view of the nature of their injuries…so I even think there should have been a package of support for the victims and clearly government has not shown leadership on this particular issue.” the Kumbungu lawmaker told Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Tuesday.

Meanwhile,  Ras Mubarak has also expressed concerns that the House ignored paying tribute to persons that perished in last Friday’s road crash  and rather mourned with persons killed by Cyclone Idai in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique.

I completely agree with the public sentiments that when you look at the gravity and the gory nature of the accidents that happened, even if there was no statements on the Kintampo and the Cape Coast accidents, it was so severe to have compelled us to at least observe a minute silence in the House,” Mubarak stated.

A statement was read in Parliament on Monday commiserating with the government of New Zealand after which MPs paid a minute silence for victims of the shooting incident in New Zealand which occurred on March 15, 2019.

They also paid tributes to victims of a natural disaster in southern Africa in which a cyclone led to over 750 deaths.
