The Tours and Facility Manager of Ghana Tourism Development Company Mr. George Adjeikwei Mensah has warned the students at Assin especially Assin Manso to desist from begging for money and other items from white tourists who visit the slave site at Assin Manso.

He said, the tourists sometimes voluntarily give books and pens to students when they come for visit and the students have taken that opportunity to demand from them. He said such acts disgrace the Assin Manso community and the country as a whole.

Mr. Mensah made this comment after the Ghana Tourism and Development Company donated assorted items to Assin Manso Primary A school. The items comprise of footballs, two set of jerseys, books, pens, toilet tissues etc.

The Facility Manager said, the Ghana Tourism Development Company is the caretaker of the slave site at Assin Manso and other tourist sites in the country, so it became necessary to give back to the society in which the tourist site is located and that was why Assin Manso Primary School was chosen.

Since 2019 has been tagged as a year of return by the President of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, he entreated all Africans and the Ghanaian in the Diaspora to endeavor to come to Assin Manso Emancipation Center for a better history.

The District Chief Executive for Assin South Hon. Derek Owusu said, Ghana is number one in terms of hospitality but sanitation is our major challenge. He stressed that since tourism walks hand in hand with sanitation, the country must first prioritize our sanitation in order for tourist to be attracted whenever they visit our various tourism site in the country.

He noted that the Assin South Assembly in collaboration with Assin South National Disaster Management Organization has identified other places that can serve as a tourist site aside the slave site (Emancipation center).
