An executive of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwame Baffoe popularly known as  Abronye DC has exposed the “inaccuracies” in the account given by the Criminal Investigative Department of the Ghana Police Service in connection with the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a member of Tiger Eye PI.

According to Abronye DC, the Director-General of the Police-CID, cooked up stories just to shield the Police officers who allegedly released the suspect following some backroom deal.

“They were just shielding those Policemen who released the guy because it’ll indict the Service. That is why her account was full of “Somebody, Someone” and was being evasive about giving real facts in the issues. She struggled to make up stories so as to cover up the real issues that happened that is why she was fumbling.” Abronye told host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 Fm Wednesday.

Police Criminal Investigations Department boss Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah told journalists at a press conference on Tuesday that reports suggesting that the Kotobabi Police had arrested, detained and released a suspect on bail due to certain links with the police are inaccurate.

While admitting that an officer from the Kotobabi Police station had attempted to arrest a suspect, the CID boss said the arresting officer panicked after sensing danger during the arrest and had no choice but to let the suspect go.

“On the 20th of March, one of the informants who had been helping us went to the Kotobabi police station and informed the police that he had identified somebody who fitted the description one of the suspects in Suale’s murder case. While this police officer was engaging the informant, he had a call from the Wembley Park near Kotobabi that the guy who had been identified was about to leave the scene so the officer rushed to the park and called the patrol team for support.

“When he got there, he arrested this person who started to struggle with the policeman, who was still waiting for the patrol team to arrive. And instead of the public to support the policeman they rather went to the aid of the person who was being arrested. Sensing that his life was in danger, the officer allowed the suspect to go. So it is not accurate that the suspect was arrested, sent to the Kotobabi police station and because he had links somewhere else he was granted bail,” Addo-Danquah said.

But Abronye told Kasapa the CID boss only lied to Ghanaians insisting there were factual inaccuracies in what the Police-CID told Ghanaians yesterday in relations to suspect that was allegedly released by the Police after arresting him.

“It is not the Police that arrested the suspect at the Wembley pub, but rather the informant who has been assisting Police in investigations all these while who first effected the arrest and handed him over to the Police patrol team. The Patrol team told the informant to follow them after the arrest. When he got to the police Station in less than 10 minutes, the suspect had been released because one police officer by name Alhaji had said he’s not the main suspect they were looking for so he should be released. The informant was furious and questioned why they couldn’t even wait for him before releasing the guy, who he was very sure of his involvement in the crime.

“The suspect went back to the Wembley pub to telling his friends that his network is solid ad that he has been released. So the question is who called that particular night for the suspect to be left off the hook. Is it not the case that if the Police have arrested a suspect and civilians allowed him to flee arrest, the next day a swoop will be carried out at the scene to recapture the suspect? The CID boss confirmed in her Presser yesterday that the Wembley pub is a den of criminals, so it is possible that the guy who was arrested is a criminal and has been hanging out there. My question is what stopped the Police from embarking on another operation to search for the suspect who according to her was allowed to escape arrest by the help of the civilians around? Is the Wembley pub still operating after the development?

“Tiwa Addo Daquah should be asked whether on the 21st of March, there wasn’t any identification parade for the informant to identify those policemen at the Kotobabi Police station that he handed the suspect to them and later released him? The informant identified five cops who were sent to the Police headquarters for questioning. And one of them even confirmed all what that happened. The Police-CID should come again.”
