Some temporal staff who were recruited for the just ended referenda for the creation of the new regions will be paid their delayed allowances next week, the Electoral Commission has assured.
The Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensah revealed the finance ministry has released funds for the payment.
“We have had just recently, I think on Thursday notified by the Ministry of Finance that they gave us a warrant indicating that they had released the monies to us. So, we have just started processing it on the GIFECs platform.
“So, we are hoping that by the end of next week payments would have been made to the temporary staff,” Mrs Mensah said when she appeared before the public accounts committee on Monday 29 April, 2019.
Scores of personnel were recruited for the Voting exercise that took place in the Volta, Western, Brong Ahafo and Northern Regions which resulted in the creation of six new administrative regions, Oti, Ahafo, Bono East, Western North, Savannah and North East.
However, aggrieved staff have been agitating over the delay in payment of their allowances since the exercise ended about 4 months ago.
Meanwhile Mrs Jean Mensa said that the welfare of the workers was her concern as she looks forward to maintain the temporal staff for future exercises.
“Usually, when you have these staff, they end up being the same ones that we use and it has been a great source of worry to us.”
