The separatist group Homeland Study Group Foundation has slammed ex President J.J Rawlings for deciding to remain quet while they struggle in their pursuit to secede from Ghana.

According to the group, it is incumbent on ex President Rawlings as father of the Volta Region to make his voice heard on such an important matter as secession.

A joint Military/Police team has in the past few days launched an onslaught on the group arresting several members including the over 80 years old leade,r Charles Kormi Kudzordzi who has been granted bail to the sum of GhC250,000 by a court.

Seven others who were also arrested over the weekend have been remanded in police custody to re-appear on May 22, 2019. They have been charged with high treason.

On Wednesday 8th May, the Police rounded up 81 members of the group in Ho ahead of a planned demonstration.

Speaking to Akwasi Nsiah on Kasapa News, George Nyakpo, Ho Branch Secretary of the group stated that ex President Rawlings’ silence on the happenings is a great cause for concern to them.

“You don’t wait for people to come and complain to you as an elderly person in the house before you call them. When your children are crying you don’t always sit and wait for them to come and complain to you, you can also stretch your hand, meet them and sit them down to hear the problem and iron out the issue. He (Rawlings) being quiet all this while raises serious concerns.

“He is aware of our issue, I watched a video on youtube that he talked about Western Togoland, the only thing he said was about Trans-Volta Togoland, I don’t know whether he’s scared he would be attacked if he speaks about our issue as a statesman. Ex-President Rawlings has been very vocal on other issues in this country, why is he silent on our case. He has not been a good father to us.”

The secessionist Homeland Study Group Foundation is seeking to declare the Volta region an independent state.

In July 2017, the leadership of the group was arrested for allegedly inciting people to push for the independence of the Volta region so it becomes a country on its own. They were released on bail.
