The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has issued a release announcing this year’s ban on drumming and noise making in its jurisdiction.
In a Press Release that was signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Gilbert NiiAnkrah enjoined all residents in the Accra Metropolis to abide by the guidelines which commences from Monday, May 13, 2019 to Thursday, June 13, 2019 in the interest of peace, harmony and national security.
The one month ban is a custom of the Ga Traditional Council and the people Ga Mashie. During this period, prayers will be offered to the gods for plenty harvest and Ghana against any forthcoming evil.
The AMA is, therefore, entreating all residents in the Accra Metropolis to during the period of the ban, ensure all forms of worship should be confined to the premises of churches/mosque and noise levels be minimized to the barest limits possible.
Religious bodies and the traditional Authorities must show respect for one another and restrain their followers from making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about the beliefs and practices of one another.
The positioning of loud speakers outside the premises of churches, mosques and pubs are banned. Roadside evangelists are to cease their activities during this period.
Apart from an identifiable task force which consists of AMA personnel, the Police Service and Representatives from the Traditional Councils with tags, no other person or group of persons should be seen or found enforcing the abatement of noise in the metropolis.
In addition, residents are to note that all villages and towns under the Ga and NgleshieAlata Traditional Councils are affected by this ban.
