Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister for National Security

Former Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has urged the Akufo Addo led government to put away pride and not feel shy to seek help from security experts in the opposition NDC party in a bid to improve the worrying security situation in the country.

His advice comes following what some have described as the state of insecurity in the wake of an increased spate of kidnappings and other crimes across the country.

On Wednesday, June 5, news broke of two Canadians having been reportedly kidnapped in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

The Kidnappers, according to the Kumasi Police, picked the two yet to be identified foreigners on the streets Tuesday night.

The development comes on the heels of an earlier kidnapping of a Lebanese Consular General by some Nigerians at Labone in Accra.

Mr. Nabil Makram Basbous, 61, was on a walk in his neighborhood at Labone in Accra when he was kidnapped by the suspects, known to be Nigerians.

Meanwhile, three teenage girls who were kidnapped in Takoradi in the Western region in 2018 are yet to be rescued.

The former Communications Minister under the erstwhile Mahama administration believes the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) is at its wits end in solving the insecurity in the country and must seek help from experts in the NDC party.

“You know Col. Rtd Gbevlo Lartey, he’s had a new appointment at the African Union, nothing should stop the government from seeking help from him to deal with the insecurity in Ghana. Even if the government doesn’t want the public to know that they are consulting him they can do that behind the scenes and they will help you.

Dr. Omane Boamah added: “That is better than trying to do risk management by shifting the blame on our national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo. That is a wrong strategy, that is for political end and that is not going to help.”
