Evangelist Agnes Abban, popularly known as Maame Fante has alleged that the rampant use of abusive languages and curses are reasons for the swift decline in movies produced by most Kumasi based filmmakers.
She claimed presently most movies by these filmmakers glorify curses using series of words said as a magic spell or charm without knowing the spiritual implications.
“Now movies by most Kumasi filmmakers are full of insults. People lost interest in most movies from Kumasi because of the abusive language. Most of the movie lovers claimed they no more take advice from movies they watch these days.
“Curses in most Kumawood movies are becoming uncontrollable and making movies unattractive to movie lovers.
“Most of the unknown incantations used in movies can have an adverse effect on filmmakers spiritually.
“Movie directors should make it an utmost effort to do research on incantations before allowing actors to recite them when shooting movies.” Maame Fante claimed
In an interview with Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kasapa Entertainment on Kasapa 102.5FM, the actress asserted that current movies produce do not project the country’s cultural values.
“Movies these days aren’t meeting the target of projecting our cultural values. Film making demands your full commitment or you’ll fail.” she disclosed
According to her, movie making is not for flippants since she has achieved a lot from her acting career.
“There is money in movie but it depends on how you go about it. Movies are not for non-serious people, it is for serious and hardworking individuals,” she added
Maame Fante lamented bitterly on how she has been denied roles because she doesn’t speak Asante Twi.
“The movie producers don’t call me for roles in the movie industry because I speak Fante and not Asante Twi. You don’t get a role in the movie industry if you don’t speak Asante Twi,’ she said
She said the movie industry has become so cheap and without honour for its actors when she was in Kumasi.
Evangelist Agnes Abban (MaameFante) is the mother of the gospel musician Empress Gifty Osei, now Adorye who recently got married to the politician, Hopeson Yaovi Adorye.
