Former Black Stars striker, Nii Odartey Lamptey believes all hope is not lost for the National Senior soccer team in the ongoing 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

Andre and Jordan Ayew were on target but 10-man Ghana had to settle for just a point in their AFCON opener against Benin.

Benin took advantage of John Boye’s red card to secure a 2-2 Africa Cup of Nations draw against Ghana at the Ismailia Stadium on Tuesday.

Michael Pote had handed Benin a surprise lead after just 103 seconds of the match, but Kwesi Appiah’s side hit back through goals from Andre and Jordan Ayew before half time.

In an interview wiith Nii Odartey Lamptey on Kasapa News he said he had high hope that the Black Stars would have triumphed over the Beninoire counterpart but sadly it did not turn out so.

He further stated that instead of heaping blame on the coach on the team’s inability to win the first match, Ghanaians should rather rally behind the team for victories in subsequent matches.

“Anything can happen in football games, we just played our first match and all hope should not be lost because we drew. You can never say never in football, it can happen that the story will be different going into our second and third matches and we’ll see a new and exciting Black Stars so let’s give them the benefit of the doubt.”
