The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George has kicked against the construction of a new parliamentary complex insisting although the current Chamber has its limitations, these limitations can be cured without the construction of a new Chamber.

He intimated it’s simply a matter of engineering and configuration to cure the current problem.

His position follows that of his colleague lawmakers who are mainly from the minority side who are against the proposed complex which includes a new 450 member chamber.

Last week a team of architects led by British Ghanaian architect, Sir David Adjaye unveiled the design and artist’s impression for the project valued at US$200 million.

Commenting on the development to add his voice to the online campaign against the project-#DropThatChamber , Mr. Sam George wrote on his Facebook wall that the decision to build a Chamber to accommodate 450 MPs is extremely farfetched.

“Are we envisaging a 450 member strong Legislature? The thought of this in itself is unholy and despicable. A nation of 30+ million does not require 450 MPs.

“I am against the idea of a new Chamber for Parliament. If we can source US$200 million, let’s commit to fixing some major roads like the Afienya-Dawhenya Road or build new school buildings in Minya or connect communities like Ayetepa to Ghana Water supplies.”
