Fast-rising Ghanaian songstress, Iona has shot-down claim that her style of music and personality is similar to that of Ebony’s.

Several stakeholders in the entertainment industry have alleged that the late Pricilla Opoku Kwarteng popularly known in Showbiz as Ebony made headway into the Entertainment industry with her nudity and profane style of music.

According to their claims, up-and-coming female artistes have also taken to the ‘Ebony’ style of music to be successful in their craft.

In an interview on Hitz Fm, the youngster whose real name is Abena Onuawonto Sam but known in showbiz as Iona asserted that her style of music and her character should not be compared to Ebony.

She admitted that Ebony gained prominence in the entertainment space at an early age but her music style is different from the late dancehall diva.

“The late Ebony is my younger sister and I admit she got into the music space before me but truth be told, I can’t copy her style of music or her personality. I’m doing something different from Ebony.

“I’m way older than her and in Ghana, the old does not look like the young but the other way round. I liked her voice and music though I didn’t get to meet her. I’m not trying to be like Ebony.” Iona stated

Commenting on her future project, Iona who is also a midwife by profession disclosed that she will use her music career to create awareness to seek support from the government for women who die at the process of giving birth.

Iona officially has two songs to her credit, ie; Penetrate released on 16th February 2019 and Krife ft Famous which is yet to be officially released. Both songs were produced by Kasoa based producer Big Brain and come with a video each.

Music came to Iona at her early teen age during her secondary school days at Action senior high school at Madina.

She joined the school choir and won the hearts of many including teachers.

Iona was also a member of the choir at the Hohoe Midwifery school, where she earned her diploma in midwifery before enrolling at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho to further her midwifery course.

The youngster’s music is mostly inspired by happenings around her including social issues, spiritual and relationship issues.

She looks up to the likes of Efyah, Becca, Adina, Samini, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Beyonce, Missy Elliot and Kelly Rowland.

Aside motivating people through her music, Iona is bent on contributing her quota towards reducing the rate of maternal mortality in Ghana.

During her leisure time, Iona likes reading, watching movies and Cooking.

Iona is signed onto Funkz Entertainment whose CEO is Eugene Agyeman, a Ghanaian business man based in the U.K.
