Fresh details on the Menzgold saga filed by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in court today Friday, July 12, 2019, suggest that the embattled CEO of the defunct firm, Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM 1, defrauded 16,000 customers to the tune of GHC1.68billion.

According to prosecutors, two of Nana Appiah Mensah’s companies, Brew Marketing Consult, and Menzgold defrauded the customers of the said amount of funds between January 2017 and September 2018.

He’s been charged with two counts of Abetment to defraud by false pretenses, and two counts of abetment to carry out banking business without license contrary to section 6(1) of the Banking and Specialized Deposits institutions ACT, 2016 ACT 960.

He has also been charged with defrauding by false pretenses contrary to section 21(1) and 13(1) of the Criminal Offenses ACT 1960 ACT 29.

NAM 1’s sister Benedicta Appiah and wife Rose Tetteh who according to the charge sheet are currently at large have also been charged with two counts of abetment to defraud by false pretenses and two counts of abetment to carry out banking business without license contrary to Section 61 of ACT 930.

The case has been adjourned to 26th July 2019.

NAM 1, who has been in custody of Dubai Police since last year, arrived in Ghana on Thursday, July 11, 2019.

He was picked up by CID officers moments after he landed at the Kotoka International Airport and was kept in CID cells.

NAM 1 recently won his court case against Horizon Company in Dubai in the $39 million gold trial.
