The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has said the indefinite suspension slapped on the Central Regional First Vice-Chairman of the party, Horace Ekow Ewusi still holds.
According to him, until otherwise determined by the Regional Executive Committee following a recommendation by the Regional Disciplinary Committee of the party, the sanction still remains the same.
The Regional First Vice-Chairman, he noted, has been ordered to appear before Regional Disciplinary Committee for hearing pending his indefinite suspension since he is not above the Constitution of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo Tradition.
The decision for such directive was taken when the National Steering Committee met in Accra on Monday, August 12, 2019, to consider the conflict between Ekow Ewusi and the Central Regional Executive Committee of the party as a result of a petition filed against him by one Edward Okraku Adum.
The Committee also looked into a petition filed by thirteen (13) constituency chairman from Central Region calling on the National Steering Committee to re-instate Ekow Ewusi who has been slapped with an indefinite suspension by the Central Regional Executive Committee of the party.
“We’ve never overturned any decision of the Regional Executive Committee. All that we are asking for is that because of the seemingly non-appearance before the Regional Disciplinary Committee, we would want Ekow Ewusi to go and appear before the Committee. Before us was the processes leading to his indefinite suspension. We recognized the work that was done by the Regional Executive Committee and that of the Disciplinary Committee. If you look at the complaints brought forth against regional First Vice-Chairman, they are very serious ones and therefore it was proper to give him the chance to appear before the Regional Disciplinary Committee for hearing. Per the recommendations made by the Regional Disciplinary Committee in their report, they said they tried getting in touch with Ekow Ewusi but they couldn’t get him to appear before them. In view of this and considering the nature of the complaint brought before them, there is a need for him to be heard. That is why we would want the Disciplinary Committee to take the matter up again”, he noted.
He added “So, we are writing to Ekow Ewusi to inform him that the regional processes is on, he should appear before them to answer whatever complaints or allegations that have been leveled against him. He is still appearing before the Regional Disciplinary Committee pending his suspension by the Regional Executive Committee. So we are urging him to appear before them to answer the allegations that have been leveled against them in other to erase any doubt that he was denied a fair hearing”.
John Boadu made this observation when he interacted with Accra-based Oman FM Tuesday, August 13, 2019.
The Chief Scribe of the NPP was reacting to some media reports that sought to suggest that Ekow Ewusi had been re-instated following the National Steering Committee’s decision to declare the indefinite suspension slapped on him by the Regional Executive Committee null and void.
The National Steering Committee, according to inside sources, had prior to their meeting, engaged the Central Regional Executive Committee and it’s Disciplinary Committee behind closed doors to hear Ekow Ewusi pending the indefinite suspension slapped on him.
He said the decision taken by the National Steering Committee will be communicated to the Regional Executive Committee of the party for them to also write to Ekow Ewusi for him to appear before the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
“If he [Ekow Ewusi] decides not to go, it means that he will have no one to blame. We don’t want to give any impression of unfair treatment to any member of our party”.
